The power of the White Out

We do not like it when we stray away from talking about the Nittany Lions, but we can not ignore the potential miracle in the making as the Penguins attempt to force a Game 7 for the Stanley Cup after being dismantled in their first two games and dropped to 3-1 in the series before beating the Red Wings in Detroit in a triple overtime classic. Don’t think for a second the Penguins will lay down and die tonight, this is it, they know it. And there will be blood.

So its time for the White Out to prove itself once again. Penn State has a wildly successful 5-2 record since 2005, losing only twice when the White Out is utilized. The two losses were to #1 Ohio State and #4 Michigan. Lets only hope it works just as well for the Penguins tonight.

In Nittany Lion news, rumors are that two-way lineman Nate Cadogan from Ohio was on the brink of becoming the twelfth verbal to the Lion class of 2009 until Purdue issued him a scholarship at the last minute.

Peter White, the top prospect from DC is also currently being pursued by Larry Johnson Sr. So in other words, count him in as a lock for the Nittany Lions.

The penguins have as much of a chance of beating the wings as PissU has the chance of actually breaking their 11 year losing streak to the wolverines…..maybe next decade….

Where do you get the 5-2 white out record? From my understanding we are only 3-3 with it. (wins coming from osu, wisc, and nd) (loses from purdue, mich, osu). Well I suppose you could count the Orangle Bowl victory because that was a called-in-advance white out. The Outback Bowl was declared a white out at the pep rally the day before, but white wasn’t overly dominant in Raymond James Stadium.

    This article (http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/college/pennstate/s_474817.html_) says,

According to D’Elia, Penn State first tried the White Out during the 2004 season, when Purdue came to town with Heisman Trophy candidate Kyle Orton at quarterback. Orton struggled, and Purdue was held a couple of hundred yards below its average in total offense, but the Boilermakers won, 20-13″

Well I mentioned since 2005. But you’re right, the first official one was Purdue in 2004, and that was a close loss to a ranked team, so that would make it 5-3. Orange Bowl was highly successful White Out by a visiting Penn State team. Then there’s the Alamo Bowl as well. The reason why it wasn’t overly dominant in Raymond James for the Outback Bowl was because Tennessee fans outnumbered Lion fans in that game by a large margin.
    .
But even by your count the losses we suffered during a White Out was to #10 Purdue, #1 Ohio State, and #4 Michigan. Still pretty solid in my book.

I’m surprised you’re counting the Alamo Bowl. Sure psu called another at the pep rally, but I mean come on. That dome was 80% Texas A&M fans. Plus, the psu fans that did come wore even less white than people at the Outback bowl. Also give psu fans some credit…Tennessee fans did not “outnumber lion fans by a large margin. I was there and ‘studied’ just that. It was really hard to tell who had the advantage and I just called it a 50-50 split.

Nevertheless, the whiteout does seem to help our team (and others). Whether it produces wins or not, it energizes the fans and the players.
