Catching Up on Pre Season Watch Lists

Submitted by on August 12, 2009No Comment

As should be expected this time of year as the college football season inches closer and closer, the award watch lists are being released on an almost daily basis. To get caught up on how Penn state players are making out let’s bring you up to speed.

Quarterback and offensive captain Daryll Clark appears on the Davey O’Brien Award Watch List, an award given to the top quarterback in the nation.

After Penn State fans were enraged to find out running back Evan Royster was not on the preliminary watch list for the Doak Walker Award (even though it was Penn State’s fault), Penn State confirmed that the star running back would be formally nominated for the nation’s top running ack award.

Both offensive players were hen placed on the watch list for the Walter Camp Award, a player of the year award in college football.

Tight end Andrew Quarless appears on the Mackey Award watch list. The Mackey Award honors the top tight end in college football so Quarless appears to be a long shot at best, unless he has a break out season and gets in tune with his inner-Kyle Brady.

The latest watch list that has been released is for the Outland Trophy, which is awarded to the top interior lineman on offense or defense in college football. Penn State’s own defensive tackle Jared Odrick and center Stefen Wisnewski are on the 40-player watch list.

So far Penn State is absent from the watch lists for the Biletnikoff (wide receiver), Ray Guy (punter), and the Jim Thorpe (cornerback) awards without much surprise. when the rest of the watch lists are released we’ll be sure to cover them here at NianyWhiteOut!
