Penn State Opens Camp

Submitted by on August 10, 2009No Comment

The grass is cut, the lines are painted, and the playbooks are in. That can only mean one thing.

Penn State has officially started camp and is now fully engaged in prepping for the 2009 football season. The 2009 season of course comes with a handful of question marks as well as high expectations on the field.

The questionable spots on the roster are the wide receivers and the secondary. the staples of the team appear to be Daryll Clark, Evan Royster and Navorro Bowman. Personally I am not ready to proclaim Sean Lee as a dominant player until I see him in real game action. That being said I fully expect Lee to be a reliable linebacker, as we have all witnessed from him previously.

The sting of the Rose Bowl defeat is still fresh in the minds of some, and it should add fuel to the fire for motivation in 2009.  even though Ohio State is losing a large number of players and featuring an offense run by a sophomore quarterback with an unproven arm, many pundits are stating that the Buckeyes will once again be the team to beat in the Big Ten. Meanwhile the Nittany Lions, who beat Ohio State last season, as a popular pick for second place, although some experts have picked Penn State to earn the Big Ten’s automatic BCS bid.

Optimism runs high in the Nittany Nation today and we will be sure to monitor the happenings in camp this week. For now here are a couple links to keep you busy as we here at quebecpenspinning prepare to pump out the pre season coverage all month long.

Penn State today unleashed a new look for the GoPSF.com web site.  My initial reactions are positive, although I have come across some minor glitches which should be ironed out in time.

Over at Examiner I posted my second installment in the Penn State 101 series with a look at the Blue Band.

For Twitter users, be sure to check out today’s post on PennLive.com as Michael Sedor gives you a list of quality Twitter members to follow, both affiliated with the university directly and not.  quebecpenspinning and I both are mentioned.

Ok, enough self promotion.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg gets Nittany Lion fans riled up a bit as he lists Penn State at number two on his initial Big Ten power rankings.

The Chicago Tribune has a piece on Penn Satte’s hopes for 2009.
