Camren Williams commits to the Nittany Lions
Massachusetts linebacker Camren Williams has committed to Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions becoming the 2nd commit for the Class of 2012. His decision came following a weekend when Penn State hosted a number of juniors including coveted teammate, wide receiver Armani Reeves on unofficial visits.
Considered a 3-star recruit by Scout and 4 by Rivals, the 6’1″ 200 lb linebacker from West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial held numerous offers including ones from UConn, Michigan, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest before selecting the Nittany Lions. Though his decision to commit early in the recruiting process to Penn State might surprise some, Camren knows exactly what he is doing. His older brother Brennan went through the same process 2 years ago before eventually committing to North Carolina.
Williams missed the first five games of last season with a torn lateral meniscus, but has been stellar since his return evidenced by the number of offers extended to the Massachusetts linebacker. He will be a strong addition to Penn State’s young group of linebackers that will only lose Nathan Stupar to graduation following this season.
It will be interesting to see if Camren will be able to follow both his bother’s and father’s footsteps, Camren’s father was once a standout defensive lineman for New England before working his way to vice president of Merrill Lynch’s wealth department.
Welcome aboard Camren!
