Toughness.
That’s the mantra this squad has adopted for the 2011 season. And on a muggy, 85 degree Fall afternoon, the Nittany Lions put on a display of toughness often lacking from last season’s edition before …

Stunned in Lincoln. Ohio State fans must know exactly how Husker fans feel

Purdue? You romp and decimate the rest of the Big Ten, but lay your biggest egg against Purdue?! Why don’t we ever get the privilege of seeing Ohio State play like that against us?

1

W #22 South Carolina 20-6. While Florida barely edges out Arkansas at home and Texas struggles with a 2 loss Oklahoma squad, Alabama is the only team that has taken care of business with little drama. Next up: Tennessee

-

2

W Arkansas 23-20. Arkansas was actually in position to take a 3 point lead late in the fourth until the kicker missed the FG. Fortunately for the Gators there was sufficient time for them to get a shot at a field goal to escape with the win. Too close for comfort. Next up: @ Mississippi State

-

3

W #20 Oklahoma 16-13. Oklahoma held the Longhorns scoreless entering the half and you really have to wonder if Sam Bradford could have finished them off had he not aggravated his shoulder again. Next up: @ Missouri

4

W @ Wisconsin 20-10. A win at Penn State, at Wisconsin and against Michigan. Iowa isn’t pretty, but they have one of the most impressive resumes of the remaining unbeatens. Watch out for the upset against the Spartans in East Lansing where they haven’t won since 1995. Next up: @ Michigan State

+1

5

W @ #21 South Florida. No Pike? No problem. Cincinnati added 2 more TDs with their backup QB after Tony Pike left in the third quarter. Next up: Louisville

6

W @ #25 Notre Dame 34-27. So USC was well on their way to another blowout victory before they stepped off the gas petal. An untimely turnover set up an easy ND score and the game was not as close as the score indicates despite what NBC would like you to believe. Somehow Weis will turn yet another “near miss” against USC into a contract extension and a big raise. Next up: Oregon State

7

Idle. Next up: Auburn

W @ UCF 27-7. So Miami beats Georgia Tech 33-17, Virginia Tech blows out Miami, and now Miami loses to Georgia Tech. Anyone still think transitive properties applies in college football? Despite that Hokie loss, Miami has the better resume with quality wins over Oklahoma and Florida State (before the downhill spiral). Next up: Clemson

W #4 Virginia Tech 28-23. Great win by the Yellow Jackets. Though they lost to Miami (reason why they’re sitting behind them), their resume consists of wins over Clemson, North Carolina, Mississippi State, Florida State and now Virginia Tech. Next up: @ Virginia

W Minnesota 20-0. Decker who? Penn State completely shuts down a Gopher offense averaging 24 points a game headed into Beaver Stadium. Same team that put up 28 points on Wisconsin’s D and 20 on Purdue’s (that’s more than Ohio State). Next up: @ Michigan

Also? Purdue played very well. So there's that.

Agreed, Purdue played their hearts out, but the Buckeyes (or Terrelle Pryor) had one of his worst games to date as well. I can only hope for a similar performance against us. Congratulations to the Boilermakers for a great win
