Jamil Pollard commits to the Nittany Lions
The 6’4″, 270 lb defensive tackle out of West Deptford High School selected the Nittany Lions over competing scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida Iowa and Rutgers.
Pollard emerged as a defensive star during his junior season recording 58 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles and three tipped passes leading the West Deptford Eagles to an impressive 11-1 record. He was named first-team all-South Jersey by the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Cherry Hill Courier Post last season.
Jamil Pollard’s commitment is a boost for Penn State by addressing a primary area of need in the 2012 class. Pollard becomes the 5th recruit and the 3rd defensive player to commit to Penn State’s Class of 2012, joining fellow early commits linebacker Camren Williams, tight end Jesse James, defensive end Brent Wilkerson, and guard Anthony Stanko. This deliberate early recruiting push by the coaching staff is a stark contrast to the sluggish effort displayed last season. Penn State didn’t pick up their 3rd verbal until July of last year when Shawn Oakman announced for the Blue and White. Recent recruiting weekends seem to be paying obvious dividends with the commitment of 4 recruits just in the last 3 weeks and with the Blue and White game looming this weekend, we can be sure there will be a couple more on the way.
