Penn State No. 9 in AP Poll

The AP college football poll was released this morning and to the surprise of nobody, the Florida Gators are the the top team in the nation. The Gators made history without playing a single down on the field by receiving the most first place votes in the initial AP poll in history. Of the 60 first place votes available, Florida grabbed 5. The Texas Longhorns picked up the remaining two votes.

Penn State finds themselves in a tie for ninth in the nation. With 989 total votes the Nittany Lions tied Oklahoma State to round out the top ten. Penn State is ranked 8th in the USA Today Coaches poll.

Texas is the second ranked team in th nation, followed by Big XII rival Oklahoma. The USC Trojans are the fourth ranked team in the nation and Alabama takes the fifth place ranking.

Ohio State is the only Big Ten team ranked higher than Penn Sate, at number six. Virginia Tech takes number seven and Ole Miss takes the eighth ranking. Oklahoma Sate and Penn State follow.

Iowa is the only other Big Ten team to be ranked in the AP poll, coming in at 22. The Hawkeyes are ranked #21 in the USA Today coaches poll.

In the BCS Buster category, Boise State is being handed the best opportunity from the start as the Broncos are ranked #14 in the AP poll (#16 in coaches poll).
